Quebec’s Second Community Food Centre Opens in Montreal’s Centre-Sud Neighbourhood
It’s an important moment in the history of the organization: it is with great pleasure and excitement that we announce the official launch of the Carrefour solidaire Community Food Centre. You can read the press release here.
From the very start, we have been inspired by the model and values put forward by Community Food Centres Canada, so we are very proud to join a big and beautiful family by becoming a Community Food Centre (CFC). Dignity, working at different scales to improve food security and above all, bringing people together around food to expand our sense of community has been part of the DNA of Carrefour Solidaire since its creation. By combining our strengths and voices with those of other CFCs, we will generate even more impact and have access to more resources to fulfill our mission.

“We’ve seen Carrefour Solidaire CFC work as a leader in their community for many years. The organization takes an innovative, community-building approach to programs that improve access to good food while building health and a sense of connection. We are delighted to have them join the Community Food Centre movement and get the benefit of their passion, creativity, and experience.»

A New Location and a Few New Programs
Since acquiring a new space at 2375 Sainte-Catherine Street East in 2020, Carrefour Solidaire’s team has worked tirelessly to open a space that reflects the community’s food needs and helps create a social link between the different residents of the Centre-Sud neighbourhood. We encountered many obstacles on our way to opening day, not least of which has been the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, the renovations to the space had to be much more extensive than anticipated. It is therefore with great excitement that we are finally able to open our doors.
The opening of Trois Paniers grocery store will inaugurate our new space. The main objective of Trois Paniers grocery store is to offer the community of the Centre-Sud neighbourhood improved physical and economical access to high-quality, healthy, fresh food. The grocery store is intended to be a welcoming and accessible place for as many people as possible. Trois Paniers grocery store will open on Tuesday, January 25th at 11am. We look forward to seeing you! Learn more about Trois Paniers grocery store here.
Our programming at 2375 Sainte-Catherine Street East will also include cooking workshops, twice weekly community dinners and a variety of other activities. These activities will begin as soon as health measures permit.
